One hit of caffeine is enough

“Wildwood” editing

It occurred to me yesterday that the last time I had really bad insomnia, I was also having my period. So I looked at the fine print on the box of Midol. One dose of Midol has the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. Given that I drink at most one hit of caffeine a day… That explains it. No Midol before bedtime. I popped two Advil last night, and eventually they worked. Of course, I was also sleepy enough that I fell asleep reasonably quickly.

I keep forgetting to mention! I’ve been invited to submit to an anthology. I’m not sure whether it’s kosher to say what in here (most other authors whose journals I read have not named it), so I won’t. I’ve sent one story, and I have a backup in case they reject the first one (which they might, because some of the content may be too strong). I should also glance through my list of ideas and see if anything leaps out at me.

Did a boatload of food shopping today. Somehow, I now have an errand every day this week—how did that happen? Tomorrow we take Grimoire to the vet early on to get his teeth cleaned, and I have a hair appt. Thursday is Ken’s surgery. Friday evening is Company of Clothiers. Oy. Still, I think I’ve balanced things out so I’ll be able to get everything on my list accomplished.

The editor was happy with my edits on “Wildwood”, even though I didn’t remove as many words as she’d asked. So all is well and good there. The book should be out next summer.

Worked through some e-mail; the In Box is less scary, at any rate. Didn’t get as much accomplished today as I’d planned, but I still feel good. I spent more time than I expected on copy editing follow-up, but that’s okay. It’s helping me get an idea of how long each job will take.

Maren came over tonight to finish her cotehardie (a gorgeous periwinkle linen, with a multicoloured trim that she wove herself), and Ken and I sussed out the pattern for my sleeves. Then I got the brilliant idea of dagging the tippets with an oak leaf pattern. They’re going to look soooo spiffy. I didn’t have time to sew them together, though. Tomorrow… We also have to start painting the masks tomorrow.

We have to get up early tomorrow to get Grimoire to the vet (for his teeth cleaning), so I should be toddling off to bed…
