She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward

A grand weekend

Had a fabulous weekend! It’s late, so no time to go into it all now. It’s going to be a packed week (not busy per se, but I have a decent amount of stuff to do, and must be good about scheduling myself), but I’ll try to catch up on the journal tomorrow. Saturday was Harvest Tourney, dinner w/friends and hanging out at their house until midnight; Sunday was Gillian’s pumpkin-carving party and Morgana & Brian’s Edward Gorey Tea Party.

Today I received a rejection from ChiZine for “Souls of Glass”, with a note in case I wanted to revise it before sending it elsewhere, essentially saying there’s too much sex and drinking in it. The main character is a college boy on Spring Break. Am I missing something here? I tried not to make him a cliché, but still. Even thought I spent my Spring Breaks at home, I consumed copious amounts of alcohol. (And my mother sometimes reads this journal so I won’t discuss the other subject.)

However, better news: “Seeds of Hope” has passed the initial reading at ASIM and is going into the second round. If it passes that (and I should hear w/in 2 weeks), they’ll hold it for no more than 2 months to make a final decision. Obviously they’ve made no promises, but it’s better than a direct ding. I like how ASIM keeps you informed as to where your story is. They take e-mail subs, and send an automated response when it’s received, &tc.

And I was the highest bidder on another Gowan CD, so my collection grows.

The problem with fabulous weekends is that they end. And this one will end with Ken getting up at o’dark early to go to LAX and fly to Portland. Yuck. It’s bad enough missing him when he goes to work after a weekend when we’ve been together; it’s worse when he’s suddenly _gone_. Ah well. People will come over for sewing tomorrow night; his nephew’s birthday party is Wednesday night; and I’ll have folks over for Samhain on Thursday. It’s nice being back in an area with people who have cars and are willing to go more than five miles in an evening.

I hope everyone had as grand a weekend as I did. More tomorrow!
