Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Decisions

BH notes: 328

Daylight Savings Time always messes with my head. It’s not quite 6:30 p.m. and I’m already in my bathrobe, because it’s been dark long enough, right? (Then again, most of the time I wander around semi-naked, but it’s been cool enough lately that I’ve been throwing on a robe. Ken was considering turning on the heat recently, but I told him to put on more clothes instead.)

And I can’t really complain. In Wales, at the height of winter, it got dark at 3:30 or 4 p.m., often after a day of grey anyway.

Okay, I’ve made a decision. (Don’t faint or anything.) I’m going to start Blackwood House tomorrow. Ken’s nephew’s birthday party is tomorrow evening, and I don’t want to get stuck in rush hour traffic, so I’m going to go to a Border’s nearby in mid-afternoon and write. In the morning, I’ll work on the Sage journal (the files finally arrived). So, I’m not officially joining NaNoWriMo. I’ll try not to write more than 5K words before 1 November so I can still use this book as part of the Beat Dean Challenge (the members of my OCW class are going to try and collectively write more novels than Dean does from 1 Nov 02 through 31 Oct 03). There you have it. I’m ready to start the book, and I’m going to. My goal is still to finish it by the end of November. I’m not taking into account my minor surgery or the drug-induced haze that will follow it, though. I want to stay on track word-count-wise until then, and deal with whatever comes after that.

Sarah’s going to start working on a Blaze novel soon, so it’ll be fun to check on each other’s progress each day.
