Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Wedding and seafood

BH: 0

Been busy and having fun, so this is the first time I’ve had to sit down with the computer. No writing has been accomplished, obviously, but I’ve thought about it a couple of times.

I got to Baltimore on Friday evening and Ken was waiting for me. Yay! Many smoochies occurred. We got our rental car and headed south to Annapolis and our motel. Found it fairly easily. We were starving so we found a Ground Round nearby and ate wings and steak (me) and chicken and pasta (Ken). Then we came back to the room and pretty much passed out from exhaustion.

We kept hitting the snooze button in the morning, but the wedding wasn’t until noon and only about 15 minutes away, so we weren’t concerned. Eventually we got up, showered, and dressed. We’d missed the hotel’s complementary breakfast, so we split a sub at Subway, then headed to the Elks Camp where the wedding was being held.

It turned out that there were more people there than we knew, than we expected! Along with Tina/Lucrezia from London, who had been eagerly looking forward to seeing, there were Genna and Wolfram and their daughter Brhiannon, Goetz, and Steve’s brother Mike. We also said hello to Beth and Steve, but as they were the bride and groom, they were a bit distracted. Steve was in a full kilt and looked so cute, and Beth was in a gorgeous floor-length purple dress with flowers in her hair.

The ceremony was short but lovely, and then it was time to party. We nibbled on the buffet (although I wasn’t hungry yet so all I had was some shrimp cocktail. We toasted the bridge and groom, and ate cake. We swang on the swings outside, saw the camp warden’s pet pig, danced whenever the DJ played 80s music (well, Tina and I danced mostly, Ken a couple of times sweetly grudgingly), and played a “Buffy” boardgame. We left at 9:30 or 10—it was a long reception/party, if you think about it.

We slept in again this morning, even later, and had a pleasant lie-in together. We finally roused ourselves and showered and went into downtown Annapolis to Buddy’s Crab & Seafood, which had a Sunday brunch buffet. Ohhhh, was it ever good! I found the mound of fresh crab next to the vat of melted butter, and was in hog heaven. Eventually we dragged ourselves away, and took a pleasant stroll through Annapolis, down to the docks to look at the boats, and into a few shops. (I forgot my sunglasses and it was sunny yesterday and today, so I bought another pair. And then it promptly got cloudy. Oops..) We wanted to go on a minibus tour of the town but we missed the last one. So we headed out to Beth and Steve’s, and hung ou there for awhile, and then we all (Beth & Steve, Tina, Goetz, and Steve’s dad and Mike) went out to dinner. At the other Buddy’s Crab & Seafood. It was our fault. We mentioned we’d been…but we didn’t complain at all. I had a Greek salad and linguini with shrimp and scallops, and Ken had sautéed scallops, and we shared an onion flower and crab dip with everyone at the table. We ate and ate and ate until we were all stuffed to the gills. (Ooh! Pun!) Beth was tired, so we made our farewells and headed back to the hotel. Now we’re lounging sleepily, half-watching “The Dead Zone” and reading and, obviously, typing.
