She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward

Happy Christmas Day!

We got up, reluctantly, but then Ken grabbed my hand and cried “Naked present-opening time!” and hauled me into the living room, where a present-opening frenzy ensued. I felt like a little kid in that respect. We did, however, restrain ourselves enough to save a present each to open after we got back home.

Showered and dressed, we went to Steve and Joelle’s and watched a _real_ kids-opening-presents frenzy. Austin and Mason were hilarious. Austin would toss paper everywhere, as long as it was flung far enough to get out of the way of the present. Also, when he unwrapped a present and realised it was a clothing box, he would set it aside without opening the box. That continued until Mason acquired a shirt that Austin liked; then Austin went through the boxes and found his own. We had yummy brunch (chile/egg/cheese casserole, sausage, fruit salad, pastries) and chatted with everyone (Steve, Joelle, Joelle’s two brothers and parents, Ken’s mom, and Dennis) until it was time to wander away.

After that, we came home and opened the rest of our prezzies. I called my sister Debi and chatted with her and my neice Baylee for quite some time. Ken and I experimented with the gold paint we had for the stars for the library ceiling and decided we needed to buy liquid leaf. (The liquid leaf we have works perfectly, but I bought it in Wales, and we didn’t want to run out and then find out the locally available stuff looks different.) I’m sure we did more in there, but now I can’t remember.

We went to his mom’s and had dinner with her and Dennis (ham, sweet potatoes, carrots, mac-and-cheese), and opened yet more presents. Whew! Then, happily stuffed, we rolled back home and I started making a new linen cotehardie (because my pattern isn’t right, so I’m essentially experimenting on this one to get it right) and Ken did some computer work. We curled up in the living room for awhile and read, and then we went to bed and read some more, and then, exhausted by all of the strenuous eating and present opening and reading, we fell asleep.
