Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Box'd

Happy Boxing Day!

We picked up more gold leaf this morning, and took in cans for recycling, and dropped off a bag of stuff at Goodwill. While walking through the Goodwill store, however, we noticed this green sofa and loveseat set… We debated over it all day, and ended up getting it. It’s got a little wear and tear, but is in pretty good shape, and fits our living room better. All for $50. The sleeper sofa and chair are out in the solar now. Ken priced lumber for the outbuilding roof, and he and Dennis picked it up. I painted gold stars on the library ceiling. Oh, it looks so wonderful! All of the larger stars are up; tomorrow we’ll do the smaller ones. Yay, yay.

We watched several episodes of “Mythquest” tonight; it’s a show our friend Gillian wrote for. Rather interesting. The episode on the Welsh myth of Blodeuwedd was fun. Our friend Donna, who also worked on the show, e-mailed me a few years back whilst we were in Wales and asked for a bunch of Welsh pronunciations. Seems that in story meetings, they were referring to Blodeuwedd as “Blah Blah.” Heh. So I got several of my Welsh-speaking friends to help out. (Blodeuwedd is pronounced blud-EYE-wuth, BTW.)

So, we’re moving ahead on some things, which is good.

A few days ago I mentioned some rather large decisions I was grappling with. As I’ve completely made up my mind about one thing and dealt with it, I feel I can share it here. It was recommended to me by someone in the SCA whom I greatly admire and who has a high position that I apply for the editorship of The Compleat Anachronist, a quarterly, SCA-wide, arts publication. So, a Society-level job. The current editor and I e-mailed back and forth for awhile and she was very honest with me about the time commitment. The rest of it, I know I can do—I can edit, I can design, I’m very organised, and I have a good pool of people to draw from to be content editors. It was the time commitment, however, that gave me pause. Right now I’m writing and copy editing, I’m Publicity and Gate Booklets for GWW VII, and with Ken I’m the local Avant Courier (which is going to take a lot of start-up work). Primarily, I was concerned about how it would affect my writing time. So, reluctantly, I sent my regrets to the editor. Reluctantly, but at the same time knowing I made the right choice. Maybe in two years I can consider it again. So there.
