Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

On my way

So I got my Speculations Update and noticed yesterday that an antho deadline had been extended because they were looking for a few more stories. Upon further investigation, I learned that the antho didn’t pay anything. But the theme stuck in my head. A germ of an idea sprouted. I thought about it on the back of the bike all the way up to Meg and Matt’s last night (we went up to drop off the rest of the tunics and have dinner) and all the way back. And right before bed, I wrote it. I especially appreciated proving to myself that I could write to theme.

Yesterday was mostly uneventful. Picked up the holiday newsletter. Paid bills. Copyedited. We had fun in the evening, though. After we got home from Meg and Matt’s, we were gearing up to take down the tree when Cat called. Band practise had been cancelled and she was only half an hour away, and did we want company? But of course! So she came by and mended her pants (don’t ask ) and I vacuumed up tree needles, and then we all curled up and watched “Buffy”. Another good episode. For a good portion it felt like another filler ep, with not a lot moving forward on the overall arc of the season. There were a few annoying moments when things were said/happened that we understood, and then a few minutes later a character had to spell it out for the lazy viewers. And there was one anticlimatic thing that irked me because I’d already suggested it plus it was just too easy. But those were minor things. The plot thickens. Good things happened. Scary things happened. What more could we ask for?

Spent today answering e-mail, cleaning house, doing a bit of copy editing, and starting packing for our trip. It’s already after 10 and we haven’t finished packing. Ack. It’s because we went to the Textile Guild meeting tonight. Oh well!

Anyway, I probably won’t post again until next Tuesday. I’ll have dial-up access in the hotel, but I’ll be focusing on my writing. I’ll keep the journal as usual, and if I have a few free minutes, I’ll pop in and post. If not, have a great weekend, everyone! [smoochies]
