Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Wandering around, here and there

Yesterday’s entry should have been “sewing the seeds of anarchy” because that would have been a lot funnier.

This morning Ken said he felt like organising, specifically in the study, and I’m smart enough not to miss an opportunity like that. So we got rid of all the computer cables and stuff, and empty boxes, and now there’s even half a shelf in the closet free. There’s still more work to do (e.g., I’m trying to find a particular type of filing tab before I can finish the filing in the SCA drawer) but it’s lots better.

I also made a list of upcoming things that I need to have things done for. Like, finishing my tunic for Darach Anniversary next Saturday (all the embroidery on the sleeves is done! Now I need to hem and do the embroidery at the bottom.), and the various projects for Gyldenholt A&S Championship in June.

Now I’m continuing to fight off a headache and slogging through e-mail, and basically trying to get all of my little project ducks in a row.

So here I was, typing an e-mail to Sarah and babbling about GGK’s book of poetry (Sarah had asked what the title was), when Ken brought in the mail and I discovered that our friend Lucrezia in London had bought me a copy! Now I want to curl up in a corner and read poetry…! This is so cool! Once again, an unexpected gift arrived when I was feeling blue, and perked me up. Lucrezia, you rock, babe!

We went to a friend’s apartment for a bbq tonight, and it was quite pleasant. Got to meet his girlfriend and some of his other friends, and eat tasty burgers, and have everyone ooh and ahh over the bike.

Tomorrow we’ll be running errands, and then going off to Santa Monica to go to a weaving store that sells the type of floor loom I have (to see if they have any manuals on how to use the silly thing) and to an art gallery that has original Brian Froud art. Then we’ll play in the hills and wander over to Meg & Matt’s, and watch first season “Angel” and “Brideshead Revisited” and fix their antique dining table and spend the night. Sunday morning we’ll trot over to another friend’s so Ken can fix her exercise machine, and then we’ll come home and sew or something.

This week I have learned important things, to wit: (1) a local SCA weaver will be demoing a loom like mine at an upcoming Textile Guild meeting, (2) she is willing to come over and help me warp my loom, and (3) she is willing to run a field trip to a local barn-sized weaving shop. All very good things. I can’t focus on the loom until the end of June, though. After I finish embroidering the current tunic, I have to buckle down and finish any projects and documentation for Gyldenholt Baronial A&S Championship, to be held at Gyldenholt Anniversary on 21 June. I’ll be entering my banner, and The Project That Cannot Be Mentioned, and I have to decide what else I’m entering as well. I doubt I’ll win, but that’s not the point; I want to support the Barony and give it my best shot.

My Palm Pilot is unwell. It won’t hotsync. If anyone out there has a Palm m105, let me know; I want to pick your brains. Anyway, this means I have no travel “computer” for writing, which is rather distressing. I can’t handwrite fast enough to keep up with my brain, and transcription is a bitch.

Oh, and there’s going to be a full lunar eclipse on the 15th! How cool is that?
