She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

When you're hot...

BH: 364; Chapters 6, 7, 8, and 9 edited
exercise: swimming

Working on Chapter 6. Amazingly, I’m beginning to feel like the book doesn’t suck as much as I felt for awhile. Maybe it was the time away from it, or maybe it’s how the edits, some of which I expected to be difficult, are going smoothly.

I just decided not to add the scene I’d been planning to add. It didn’t actually develop the romance at all, and I couldn’t figure out what the heroine would learn about the minor mystery in the story either. Still, I managed to add a few words, which is nice. And, oddly, all of my chapters so far are 15 pages long. Huh.

Well, hot damn! I got through chapters 7 and 8! I’m about to tackle 9. I don’t have any major notes of changes, so it’s just a cleanup. That’ll mean I’ll have two more chunks to send to critiquers tomorrow. I’m way ahead of schedule right now, which feels great. I’ve both subtracted and added things so it’s hard to get a real wordcount of the work that I’ve done. But no matter. What’s important is getting it done.

Chapter 9 done. Getting tired, so I shouldn’t push things.

A good day today, on many levels. Meg, Matt, and Julian came over. We grilled hamburgers (or “hangerbers”, as Julian calls them) and cooked corn-on-the-cob, swam, sat in the hot tub (Julian in our master bathroom jacuzzi tub), played two rousing games of Kill Dr. Lucky, and ate lemon-garlic chicken and pasta (courtesy of Meg) outside. It was overcast for most of the day, but the pool was a reasonable temperature, and the sun came out for our al fresco supper.

Tomorrow I’m off to make rose beads with Lasairfhiona. Fun project! We’ll be trying a lot of different recipes and documenting our successes with each.

We may be going on a trip next week, but I’ll report more about that when we have the plans closer to finalization.
