She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Hey, everybody, it's bunting time!

This weekend’s word (phrase, really) on my Forgotten English calendar is “bunting time: When the grass is high enough to hide young men and maids” (B.E.’s Dictionary of the Canting Crew, 1699). Well, ahem!

Today was even more lovely than yesterday. When it was after 1 a.m. and we hadn’t got to bed yet last night, we decided that we didn’t in fact need to be at Opening Court this morning and Ken didn’t need to fight rapier. So we slept in a bit (but not enough) instead.

The event was great. A little muggy, but ocean breezes helped immensely. (Apparently I brought a breeze with me into the Altavian pavilion. Because I have that power.) I got all of the signatures I needed to get at the event, which leaves me with four or five to still track down, which is do-able. (If there isn’t a rule about two “which” clauses in a sentence, there ought to be.) I warped my inkle loom with more stuff for Vanguard of Honor bands (because they’re bringing the materials to events how), but because I had to wait for someone else to finish, I missed the Embroiderer’s Guild meeting. [pout]

But then, excitement! There was a raffle of baskets of various goodies, you see. There were two baskets of fabric: one with a pale slate blue fabric and a multicoloured plaid-ish fabric in colours darker than pastels but lighter than jewel tones; and one with a slightly darker slate fabric and a striped/patterned fabric with a background of dark blue. The first, I noted, would be great for early Celtic outfit, and the second perfect for Turkish or Persian coat (which I’ve been wanting to make, but despite all of the fabric we have, we didn’t have any that was right for the project) and pants. There were a fair number of tickets in the second bag, but not too many in the first. We bought 12 for $10 and I put three in the second and the rest in the first.

I can no longer claim that I never win anything in raffles. I won the first basket, which wasn’t a huge surprise but was huge excitement for me. With basket #2, Bruce (who was pulling tickets), pulled one that was the wrong part of the ticket (the part that says “keep this part of the ticket, bonehead”). He read the number, but the person holding the ticket either wasn’t there, or had put the other part of the ticket in a basket as well. It was decided that a second ticket would be drawn. Bruce did so and doubled over laughing. Yes, dear pets, I won again!

A friend who is less financially solvent than we (and that’s saying something) also put in tickets for the second basket, so I’m going to try and use as little fabric as possible and give her the rest.

We came home after the event, dove into the pool to cool off, showered, ate a quick supper, and headed off to the BoD soirée. We chatted with Ormswyn, and also briefly with a tired Keilyn long enough to plan our breakfast meeting tomorrow, and hung out with Gavin and Cara and other folks until it was time to toddle home.

In writing news (yes, there really is some!), I came up with a good AETW scene in the shower today, so I’m looking forward to that. I know I said I was all fired up to write it, but after I read through it (and found it better than I remembered), I started second-guessing the upcoming planned scenes. But now, come Monday, I should be back on track.

Tomorrow is bkfst with K&O, a GWW meeting, and then bike folks are coming over to turn our driveway into a repair shop. During that last bit, I’ll be catching up on life, maybe watching a movie (I taped two today, ack!), weaving, maybe writing…

Our only plan for Monday is to sleep in, finally.
