Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

The gods smile

EEEEEEEK! There’s been a cancellation in the OCW workshop about anthologies, and I’m going!

It’s this weekend. And I have to write and bring a story based on some particular specs.

I actually knew about this at about midnight last night/this morning, wanted to wait to announce it until I was sure it would work out. We spent a good portion of today working out the details. I’m using flyer miles, which means my flight is free. I’m still sorting out getting from PDX to Lincoln City, but it won’t be a problem. I have a motel room within walking distance of the workshop house (which is full)—amazingly, because it’s the height of tourist season, and most places were either booked or outrageously priced.

I have to write a 3-6K story by Thursday night.

[deep breath]

I can do this. This is the type of thing K&D told us can happen, and you always say yes when an editor asks for a last-minute story. I’ve known about the theme for a week or so, and had an idea that I was going to try to write by this weekend anyway as a personal dare. I have an idea, but no plot or characters.

The rest of today has been (and will continue to be) taken up with copy editing so I can hopefully finish the project early and concentrate on the story. And packing. Ken doesn’t have any pressing work right now so I can steal the laptop for a couple of days.

In other, related amusement, Sunday night I’ll be staying with Lev and Gayle. Morgana and Brian will be there, too. Hee.

Okay. All of the copy editing done except for one small part. That took up almost all of my day, along with picking Dennis up at the airport. Ken, being the most wonderfulness of a beloved that he is, had dinner in the works when we got home. I actually had a little time to watch TV with him, too.

I think my subconscious is percolating some good ideas for the story…
