Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Universe at rest

Other than the news about Pooka yesterday, the day was quite pleasant. Meg woke us with breakfast in bed (omelets). We lounged for a bit, and Dennis came over to help with the library, so Meg and I escaped to the used bookstore, for which I had a 25% off coupon. Between that and the books I traded in (and then didn’t even take all of those, pooh), I walked away with 10-15 books for less than $25. Not too shabby. Some fantasy (including parts of series I’m trying to collect), some romance, and a book on Ozark magic and folklore, just ‘cause it sounded different. I considered a book on Turkish fairy tales, but it was written in the Victorian era, and we all know the quality of Victorian scholarship, don’t we?

We returned home, and I copy edited for a bit (not enough, though, so today and tomorrow will be busy), and Meg and I watched some TV, and nipped out to pick up more pork chops and the fixings for chicken liver paté, and she made a scrummy supper: paté on Melba toast and shrimp cocktail for starters; and then the chops, asparagus, and red potatoes. Later, we played Kill Dr Lucky and went skinny dipping.

Today Meg made us breakfast again (shrimp and cheese omelets), and then Ken and I showered and dashed over to the GWW meeting. Silly me, I assumed since we’d been working so hard and gotten so much done ahead of time, that this close to the event it would be a short meeting. Ha! Lots of last-minute stuff, along with two people who hadn’t shown up to any previous meetings, and two deputies trying to figure out what was going on. But it’s all coming together, in a completely fascinating way that makes me think I want to run it someday. They’ve got Stewards in place through 2007, and as the gods are my witness, when we got in the car I tossed 2008 out as a concept to Ken. He said he can’t think that far in advance. Wise man. Now, as I scurry around trying to get things done, I agree with him wholeheartedly. ;-)

So we came home; grilled hangerbers for Meg, Matt, Julian, and ourselves; and played a coupla games of Kill Dr Lucky before they headed home and we settled in to get a few things done. Now Ken’s off at an Iron Maiden concert with Dennis (I was tempted, but I couldn’t justify the money for a ticket because I’m not a big enough fan), and I’m trying to copy edit and juggle GWW and vacation stuff.

I had no idea that Enya’s “Only Time”, which is on the FotR soundtrack, is also on one of her regular albums—which I own. I feel lame.

Now I’m not sure if listening to Evanescence’s early, goth-rock stuff is a good idea when I’m alone at night…

Ken’s home now; he had a great time. The universe is no longer in flux. Rest easy, my pets.
