Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Two stories

Lily La Rouge: 3114
Devouring Heart: 1234

I did in fact attempt to take a nap, but I’d turned the TV on, and found an ep of “Charmed” that I hadn’t seen, so I lay in the dark (the room has very good drapes) and watched it. Ken came back and curled up with me towards the end. Then we hauled ourselves back up to go to dinner, because we were both starving.

We hooked up with two other guys and went to a BBQ place. I wasn’t in a BBQ mood, but Ken was, and I figured I’d find something else on the menu. Alas, there wasn’t much. We split a starter of Armadillo Eggs and I had an okay chicken Caesar salad. Afterwards, Ken and I wandered around town a bit and picked up a couple of things we needed. I seem to have found an interest in sweets again, and had a scrummy cup of Baskin Robbins ice cream (some three-types-of-chocolate—Mudslinger Madness or some such). Then we called it an early-ish night because we _both_ had headaches. Which is not to say we went to sleep early… [eg]

Things I Keep Forgetting to Mention:

* We’re on Floor 13. Very few hotels have a Floor 13, so I find this spiffy.

* The theme for tonight’s banquet is Hillbilly, and on Monday night, Ken’s mom helped me turn a pair of jeans into fringed short-shorts, because I’m going as Daisy Duke. Although, since I wear heels so rarely now, I imagine I’m going to survive in my white F-Me Pumps for less than 10 minutes. I’ll try to get pictures, anyway. Last night Ken bought a straw hat and a corncob pipe, and he’d already picked up overalls at Goodwill…

Ken’s off on a ride today (I’m interested to hear his impressions of riding pillion rather than driving). I’ve done the e-mail thing and am hoping that a combination of Advil and Excedrin will finally whack this headache into submission (it’s better, but still there, dammit). I’m trying to decide whether to work on the doors story (which I’ve been thinking about too much and starting to think is stupid, which means I should just sit down and let my subconscious write the damn thing) or a ghost erotica (which I have the whole idea for, and even involves character development). Eek, I just glanced at the gls and realised the ghost erotica deadline is Monday. Guess that answers that question. The next question is, can I write a vampire erotica in that time, too? And what about a threesome erotica due Sunday? Hee hee hee.

Hee! More than 1K so far on “Lily La Rouge, or, The Ghost of Erotic Presents”. I’m having way too much fun with this.

Finished! Just over 3K. I rock. Now, do I write the vampire erotica, which I have an idea for, but for which I don’t know whether they antho pays? I think I can pull an older story for the threesome antho.

One of my new favourite things is this: http://www.yinepu.net/nicehairindex.html It’s a comic strip about Neil Gaiman, Tim Burton, and a few other folks like that. Neil’s seen it and thinks it’s hilarious. When you read it, go back to the beginning and read from there. It’s much funnier that way. I just read the latest one and giggled in a roomful of computer geek biker men, who apparently found that amusing. (My giggling, that is.)

Hmm. I’m stalling on the vampire story. I know the ending, but not how to begin it (other than a really nifty description. Upon reflection, I can’t pull the older story for the threesome antho. I’ve been reading for most of the late afternoon, and listening to the latest thunderstorm. Ken should be back in a little while. I think afternoons aren’t my best time to write.

Okay, I lied. Suddenly it all clicked. The story’s a lot shorter than I expected, but I think it works. 4300 words total today, which isn’t too shabby, considering my recent pathetic output.

Ken called; he’ll be back in a few minutes. We’ll shower and head down to the banquet, and see how long I can stagger around in those pumps.

Banquet is over; I looked hot and Ken looked like a goober (which was the plan) and a picture was taken. Now I’m doing a last e-mail pull and journal-read before things close up here. I’m not sure if I’ll have any access again ‘til Monday evening, so don’t panic if you don’t hear from me.

But first, a hearty thank-you to Teresa, who’s already critted the ghost antho, as well as to Lev and Beth, who are willing to read both stories!
