Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Scowls and bubbles

Another morning of scowling at the computer and not wanting to do anything. Finally I realised that if I organised myself a little, it all wouldn’t look so scattered and overwhelming. So I cleaned off the desk, updated the computerized To Do list, and got not-crucial stuff farther away so there was space for crucial stuff close at hand. Much, much better. Now I’m going to tackle e-mail; lots of little things to answer.

I’ve also eaten breakfast and lunch, and done the dishes from today and last night. I tried to make salad, but our fridge is too cold and some of the veggies had semi-frozen and then gone limp. So I sliced up the tomatoes (which were fine, obviously) and am marinating them with big sprigs of fresh basil and balsamic vinaigrette.

Holy Pagemaker, Batman, I’ve finished the Gate Booklet! Oh, it needs a good proofreading—I’ve already found errors—and I have to re-scan an ad _again_ (I had to re-scan all 8 of them today, because for some reason none of them worked the first time) but it’s actually done! Maren can proof it tomorrow night before we settle down with Neverwhere and 2500 Combat Booklets that need hand-correcting. (I will not cry. I will not get depressed. I will not feel like an ass. I will _not_.) Whew. I can then make corrections Friday morning and take it to the copy shop before I pick Ken up from the airport.

I also hit my copy editing goal for the day, so that’s going well. The last job I’ll have for a few weeks, too. I took a nice bath with relaxing British bubblebath in the Jacuzzi tub and read The Unicorn Sonata by Peter S. Beagle, which made me cry and gave me a story idea. (I have too many of those at the current moment, but I’m really not complaining.) I ate supper and watched the first ep of this season’s West Wing. Hm. It’s a great show, but I fear it’s going to be one that gets dropped in favour of other things. I made a list of shows we watch or new ones we want to watch, and sorted them by day and time. There are too many conflicts. There are only three shows that are important enough to always tape, I think: Charmed, Angel, and Tru Calling. Although if Tarzan is going to have Lucy Lawless on it, then it may get added to that list. (For the record, I don’t find her very attractive as Xena, but otherwise, ohh yeah.)

Ken should be calling soon. This week is going by fast, which is nice; he’ll be home in less than 48 hours.
