She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Familiar

Sacrifice to Silence: editing
AETW: 432

Following a link from Neil Gaiman’s journal today, I found the information that “6-toed cats were favoured as witches' familiars”. I _knew_ there was a reason I named him Grimoire! :-)

Right now, I’m not tired, but I was, and I will be again. We got to bed far too late last night (after midnight, I think) and Ken had to leave by 5 a.m. However, the bike battery was wonky this weekend, and although he got the bike started this morning, the headlight then died. So I had to get back up (I’d gotten up with him to say goodbye, then crawled back in bed) so we could go in the car. I fully intended to go back to bed when I got home, but by the time I got here, I was awake enough to foolishly decide to stay up.

So here I am at 2:40 p.m. I’ve answered a bunch of e-mail, paid bills, done dishes, started taking down Hallowe’en decortations, watched an ep of CSI, and worked on “Sacrifice to Silence”.

Let’s see. After that last paragraph, at some point I decided I was cold enough, and had been productive enough, that a hot bath was in order. (We need to get our heating ducts cleaned before we can turn on the heat, and it’s been trés chilly.) After the bath, in which I read a great deal of KKR’s first Fey book (I’ve been reading it for a week or so and I’m almost done with it), I came back and did a little more work.

And at about 4:45, my brain shut down with an audible click.

I’m terrible with naps. They make me groggy and cranky afterwards, and I often have weird dreams and that sort of annoying experience. But it was obvious to me that if I didn’t lie down, the day was just going to get worse. To my surprise, although I managed to sleep for about an hour and a half (wisely, I did set an alarm—I don’t want to be up all night), I wasn’t awfully groggy or cranky, although it took me an hour or so to rev back up to full speed. So that was good.

Cat and I watched “Charmed”, and I watched a bit more TV, and did a little weaving. Now I’m definitely off to bed. I have a chiro appt in the morning (I switched it from today, wisely realising I was tired enough that errands would not be pleasant or productive). But I also have a Palm and keyboard, and I’m going to curl up in bed and work on—sit down for this one—AETW. I had some ideas for a brief scene, and I’m going to write it before it slips away.
