She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Have I mentioned that I rock?

AETW: 901
exercise: day off

Hah! I figured out how to bcc: in Mail. I rock.

Other than that, it’s being A Day. At 6:15 a.m., the phone rang, startling me into wakefulness. At that time of the morning, a call can only mean Something Bad, like someone has died or is seriously injured/ill. I gasped “hello” into the phone. There was a pause, and then a lady’s voice started babbling at me in a foreign language, probably Vietnamese. I gently told her she has the wrong number and hang up, and stood there, hand pressed to my chest, feeling my heart beating so hard that it hurt. It took me a little while to calm down.

I slept in, which was nice, and puttered for a bit. I was going to run all sorts of errands today, but couldn’t get up the enthusiasm for them. It has been gently raining on and off, and the grey weather made me want to curl up on front of the TV with some good movies, or just curl up with a good book. But I couldn’t get settled to do any of that.

Ken called, which made me happy. He had a good time in Japan. I got to tell him about the last few days. He’s calling again later, because we have to discuss holiday presents for a few people (because I need to do some ordering).

I did go food shopping, because I really did need food. Nothing exciting happened, but there you have it.

Since I’ve been home, however, I’ve just been kinda tired and slow. Again, it’s the grey day and the desire to curl up. However, the DVR has gone wonky. The screen is split, or shifted. I can’t see any way to fix it, so I’ll have to call tomorrow. I really hope I don’t have to take the box in, because it’ll mean I’ve lost what I’ve recorded, like several episodes of “Angel”. Although if I do have to take it in, I’ll if I can copy stuff to tape. Grr.

Man, I have just been cranky tonight. Varying between cranky and almost weepy. And unable to focus on anything. I don’t know what I want to _do_. (Not the same thing as boredom, which is one doesn’t have anything to do. I’m never bored!)

Oh! Oh! I fixed the DVR! [high-fives self] It was scary, because I ended up rebooting it—I didn’t know if I’d lose everything I’d recorded. I tried calling (after discovering they had a 24-hour line) but they said I’d have to wait 6 minutes, which is ridiculous for a Sunday night, and so I took matters into my own hands. Successfully, thank the gods.

(Rob, now would be your cue to bow down to me again. Because you’re so cute when you’re obedient. Aren’t you glad X isn’t reading this?! [eg])

I love online shopping. Just wanted to mention that. I especially love it when I already have the catalog and have picked out what I want. With the What On Earth website (www.whatonearthcatalog.com), all I had to do was type in the four item #s with spaces between them, and I was ready to check out, just like that.

I still have a few holiday presents to buy. No ideas for most of Ken’s family, although technically it’s not my responsibility. Sadly, no ideas for most of my family, either.

Why did no one tell me there are new Blackmore’s Night and Queensryche albums out?! C’mon people.

The best new show of this season (that I’ve been watching, anyway) is “Joan of Arcadia”. Oh, it’s not perfect—it’s a little too succinct in how God tells her to do X at the beginning of the episode and we see how it affects things by the end of the episode—but overall, it works. I had missed the first ep and watched it tonight; I think I’ve missed the second ep but am otherwise caught up until last week. Watching the first one halfway through made me see how things are developing, and there’s an overarching theme that isn’t obvious in a single episode. Plus it’s witty, amusing, and has good secondary characters who aren’t entirely cardboard. Again, not perfect, but it certainly rises above the usual TV drek.

The second-best show would be “Surviving Nugent” if only they’d show more than one episode over and over…

“Charmed” has certainly perked up with the last new ep that I saw (and Cat and Dennis agree), so I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season pans out.

I’ve been enjoying “Angel” so far, but will have 3–4 eps to watch with Ken when he gets back.

Ken’s doing well, BTW; we’ve talked twice today. He’s pushing to come home early, although he’ll be headed up to Portland for a few days soon thereafter. Which overall is okay. He’s negotiating another Korean job that, if all goes well, will be a year’s salary plus, for about 3 months’ work. It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out.

I’ve been lagging on some of my projects, so I have to pull myself together this week. I’m pleased with my writing production today, and my goal is 1k/day this coming week. I have errands to run tomorrow, and possibly a new journal to edit mid-week. Of course, I’ve been tired and mildly maudlin all day, and now it’s after 2 a.m. and I’m rarin’ to go. But I’m headed to bed—sleep will be A Good Thing. See you tomorrow…
