Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Whirrrr

I suppose I should just be honest and start the entry with Saturday, since it’s after midnight and I can’t sleep, and we have to be up early tomorrow to get to Crown. Ken’s still working on some GWW Exchequer stuff so he can pass everything on to the new Exchequer. I just can’t get my brain to shut up. Nah, we’ll leave this as Friday.

All I wrote in my journal for Thursday was “Happy Da Vinci’s Birthday!” so I’m not going to post that separately.

Yesterday was pretty much a bust. I had a headache of some level for the entire day. I finally was hit with a clue-stick: allergies. Every year, Ken is taken by surprise when he gets allergies (he’d never had them before we went to Wales). Obviously I’m getting them now too—much to my own surprise. My eyeballs felt too big for their sockets, like they do when the Santa Anas blow. I took allergy meds and they helped, ‘though not completely. Eventually I took a long, hot, bubbly bath (with Dirty Girl brand bubblebath, which I got for my birthday—I know, how appropriate!), which felt wonnnnderful, but gave me another headache (or moved the first one to a different part of my head). Argh.

We did watch the latest “Angel”, which was an odd episode. Another one where I thought it should feel more emotional, yet it didn’t. If Eve isn’t the most annoying woman on the planet, I don’t know who is. (Okay, Joan Rivers is.) And really, I don’t think the actress who plays Eve is very good. I’m still very cranky about “Angel” being cancelled, though.

Today I picked up my new glasses and contacts. Not sure yet whether I like either of them. The contacts don’t seem to be the right prescription, somehow. Not sure. The glasses are very small and I don’t think they’re adjusted properly, because I can’t look down. Right now I’m wearing them lower down my nose than is truly comfortable. Who knows. I have an appointment after we get back from our trip, and by that time I should have a better idea of how both the contacts and the glasses are working for me.

We also went out and bought brand-spanking new motorcycle jackets. (Where did the phrase “brand-spanking new” come from, anyway? It’s pretty odd, if you think about it. Something related to spanking newborn’s bums, maybe?) With these jackets, the front, sides, back, and part of the arms zip off in one piece, leaving mesh everywhere except over the arms and shoulders (there’s also body armor along the back), so they’re super-cool. With that part zipped on, they’re for regular weather, and they also have a liner for when it’s cooler. Ken’s ordered funky inner vests for cold weather. We are stylin’. Although when he’s just wearing the mesh with the armored arms, I think Ken looks like a Power Ranger. Especially with the sun visor in his helmet down.

Ken’s come to bed, so I should turn this off and try to sleep for a bit.
