Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Time dilation

Had my eyes dilated today. Retinas look fine, which is always a relief. But the dilation took forever to go down (I could have sworn that last year it was gone in a couple of hours), so I couldn’t focus on anything close up for most of the day. I watched various recorded shows, both with Ken and by myself, and fretted because I couldn’t do anything useful except wash dishes.

Eventually Ken went up and poked around in the attic because we’ve been wanting to put in access with a pulldown ladder/stairs. It was about 90° outside, and hotter in the attic, so he soon emerged and we went swimming. While floating around in the blissfully cool pool, we discussed various house projects, and eventually came to the “duh!” realisation that we didn’t have to put in new access to shove empty boxes up there. So now the “lanai room” in the outbuilding is cleared of boxes and junk. Tomorrow (according to the new plan) we’ll vacuum and scrub in there. Right now there’s a big sofa and loveseat, plus a chair and ottoman. None of them really fit. We’ll probably stop at Goodwill (we have a stack of things to donate) and see if there’s any cheap furniture. We already have some lovely bookshelves to put together, and then we can start unpacking the history books, which will also help clean out the garage.

We watched three episodes of season two of “Angel” tonight. I’m all confused by the flashbacks (once they’re post-SCA period, I can’t keep track of them), but they’re slowly clicking into place.

I did print the beginning of Waking the Witch, and really honestly I swear am going to work on it tomorrow. The only other thing I really have to do is drop off the GP at the copy shop, and I’ll probably also stop by Staples to pick up a few things. I did read through all of the e-mails re: the workshop and make a database of addresses, because I have to send everybody at least the proposal (synopsis + 3 chapters); 2 people + Dean get the full ms. So I’m up to speed on that, at least.
