She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

The colour of confusion

Waking the Witch synopsis: 420

We scrubbed the lanai room today, rearranged the sofas, set up the drafting table, and put together the bookcases. I can’t describe how thrilled I am! It actually looks like a room now. I can’t wait to start putting up books…tomorrow, though. I still have more stuff to do inside the house today. But the room is going to be such a nice place to curl up with Afalwen, too. Whee!

Ran a few errands today, answered a bunch of e-mail, and otherwise organised and straightened. I’m definitely using creative avoidance re: WtW. Oh, I still think it’s a great book, but I get scared by the amount of work that needs to be done. It isn’t going to get done unless I work on it, though, so off I go.

Anyone know of a spirit/faerie/god/goddess/other that protects children? Any legends associated with this idea? I came up with a nifty (and somewhat chilling) story idea on the way home from Portland (the bike is good for mind meanderings), but I need a few more details. And time. I need time to write it. The sooner I get WtW mailed off, the sooner I can write the story. There’s incentive for ya.

I received a lovely, lovely birthday gift from Teresa today: Bud, Blossom, & Leaf: The Magical Herb Gardener’s Handbook. Now, if I could just get any of my herbs to _survive_, I’m on my way. Hopefully the book will give me some tips about what I’m suddenly doing wrong. I used to have a fine green thumb, but somewhere along the line it turned brown and vaguely smelly.

Sometimes I just don’t know what to do with my brain.

I had a minor panic attack this evening about WtW. Suddenly the main characters were assuming another character was a ghost! How did they come to that conclusion? I don’t remember making that clear!

Then it hit me. In the first scene, the character’s rape and murder is described. One main character’s son is accused, which is why the protagonist is even there. Um. Duh. Thwap.

There are still things they’re going to learn about the ghost, of course. But sheez, did I feel lame for a moment there.

Ken made kielbasa and cabbage for supper, and we watched a variety of shows. We were all shattered to realise that “Tru Calling” hadn’t recorded (there were actually four shows set to record simultaneously, and the DVR can handle only two), but Muirenn had already suggested that we get together to watch this ep (the 2-hour finale), so we called her and tried to figure out a time when all four of us were free. This wasn’t easy, let me tell you. We finally settled on tomorrow night, with Ken and I deciding not to go to the Queensrÿche concert (we didn’t go to the Wednesday one, either. Inertia, I fear.).

Ken’s helping someone pick up a motorcycle tomorrow (she’s still learning to ride, and, being a sweetheart, offered to let me ride hers—although I’ve not ridden in years, and fear causing damage to someone else’s bike) and I have to drop the GP into the mail, but otherwise, until the evening, the day is free. I need to finish reading WtW and then look at the rambles that I’m calling a synopsis. I have a couple of things to mail, and a few other projects to deal with, and a variety of e-mail to answer, but it should be a good day overall. If we ever get to bed tonight, that is. ;-)

I’m very peeved to realise that I had the GP cover printed in the wrong colour. I alternate between yellow and blue (the Barony’s colors), and somehow got it in my head that April’s was yellow. It wasn’t. Dammitall. So now do I do two in yellow to keep a pattern, or pretend it didn’t happen, or…?!
