Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Waking the Witch: edits Ch1-2

I just booked my flights to Portland and to Virginia in June! Whee! I have about 14 hours at home between the trips. Sob. But it’s an adventure, right?

We went to Meg & Matt’s yesterday evening for the “thank god the children are gone” adult party to celebrate daughter Julian’s birthday. Alas, we missed the bouncy castle. We did not, however, miss Kedrin’s awesome sushi, and ate a fair amount. For once, I didn’t stuff myself silly, which is a good thing. I did, however, drink more wine than I initially planned. I drank water as well, so I didn’t get sick or have a hangover, but in the end I didn’t sleep well. Ah well. Besides Kedrin, Jared & Selene also showed up for a while. We never got around to playing Princes of Florence, which was a major bummer, but there you go. Nonetheless, many good times were had by all.

This morning I had breakfast with Jenn and Christine, which was absolutely lovely. It’s so inspiring and invigorating to talk to other writers who are enthusiastic about writing. (As compared to the critique group I was in here for a while, which was mostly composed of folks who didn’t really write anymore and weren’t positive about writing). We talked books, movies, BSDM (really, it was relevant!), words, games, and of course writing. It was fantastic, and we managed to set up a June meeting as well.

It’s just too bloody hot. I don’t care if it’s a dry heat or whatever, it’s just too f-ing hot. I’ve been in the pool four times today—the final time being at about 10:45 p.m., before we curled up to watch a season two “Angel”. Blech and more blech. For some reason, the study is the hottest room in the house—even though it gets no direct sunlight. Go figure.
