Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Pained

By the time we went to dinner last night, I’d developed a headache, and drugs and a couple of glasses of wine didn’t help. I had to get up several times throughout the night to take more drugs, too. I thought it was pretty much gone this morning, but then the alarm went off. I hate clock alarms. Really, really hate them. I know one time, I flew straight up, arms flailing, neck muscles taut. Ow, dammit.

I proceeded to feel crappy all day. I had to keep my eyes closed for much of the ride, which sucks because Arkansas has really pretty scenery, with lots of trees and green. Eventually we got into Hot Springs and to our hotel. I took drugs and freshened up as best I could, and then we headed to Hot Springs Village where Ken’s grandmother lives. We went out to supper with her and Ken’s dad and his wife, and afterwards we called it an early night. (Dad and wife had a heinous time getting there, too—their flight into Houston sat on the runway there for 6 hours because of bad weather and then dumped everybody off the plane without even a dinner voucher, so they rented a car and drove the 9 hours here.)

I still have a headache, but not as awfully bad. I’m going to upload all of this and clean the spam out of my In Box, and then curl up under the covers. We’ve got some silly Jason and the Argonauts, or Hercules, movie on, and that’s about all I’ve got brain power for.

The other night we saw a show about the Top 10 Best Monuments in the World or something like that. What was exceptionally cool about it was that of the 10, I’ve been to all but 2 (Pyramid at Giza and Taj Mahal) and Ken had been to all but 3 (those 2, plus Westminster Abbey—he’s only seen the outside of it). We’ve been to Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower, Parthenon, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Coliseum, Pantheon, and Neuschwanstein. That’s just awesome. Every so often, when I bemoan how little I’ve accomplished in my life, it’s good to remember this.

Although I’ve come up with one short story idea (which may or may not be any good; it’ll be an interesting experiment if nothing else), while we’re riding my brain has been mainly focussed on the novel I’m planning to write after Sarah and I write our next one (Photoplay, another Blaze) in June. I’m coming up with all sorts of good scenes, and hopefully I’ll have the time and energy to type them up in the next few days. Although the ones that really stick with me are probably the only ones worth keeping!
