Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

End of the week

I hadn’t entirely planned to take yesterday off as well, but I found myself dragging and lethargic, so in the end, I did. I pottered about, answered some e-mail, caught up on “Enterprise” (the Brent Spiner trilogy is bloody wonderful so far! I think the new writers may pull the show out of the toilet after all), etc. Occasionally I got the urge to return to the novella, but not enough to open Afalwen. I made fresh pasta with pesto, grape tomatoes, and fresh basil for supper, and afterwards Morgana and Brian came over and we watched “Sunset Boulevard”. Amazing movie. M&B are working their way through older movies, and Ken and I haven’t seen a lot of them, so I’m hoping we can do this fairly regularly.

Today we helped with an SCA demo at a middle school. I really didn’t want to go, but I’d promised, and I knew there wouldn’t be a lot of volunteers on a work day. In the end, it was great. The kids may have been occasionally rowdy and annoying, but they asked some great questions and kept us on our toes the whole time. We did four classes, then a fighting demo on stage. I was the only female, which made for an interesting perspective. I’m really glad I helped out.

Now I’m exhausted and pretty much brain dead. Ken’s getting up at 4 a.m., I think, to do a distance bike ride (1500 miles in 36 hours), and I’m getting up a couple hours after that to catch a ride down to Coronation. I didn’t feel safe driving on my own, because it would involve night driving in unfamiliar places, so I’m just going down for the first Court with Brian and Ismay. Ah well. The main plus to all that is that I’ll be home by late afternoon, and have then and the evening to myself to write. On Sunday, I think Morgana and I are going to tour some historic homes in Ventura. Of course, the 1890-1920 home tours are on Saturday… But the famous Craftsman will be open both days, plus some other exhibits. And Ken will be home Sunday later afternoon.
