Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Yesterday was a very slow day. I was so tired. I had two or three hours of energy in the morning, when I paid bills and caught up on e-mail and that sort of thing. Then I had a dr’s appt, and we had to drop of prescriptions, and go food shopping, and pick up prescriptions, and by the time I got home, I was wiped. I assume—and hope—that it was related to the weekend’s indiscretions.

So I wasn’t going to go shopping with Morgana today, despite the Salvation Army’s thrift store 50%-off sale, because I had to get stuff done. But she hadn’t gotten the e-mail about our new phone numbers, and when she couldn’t get hold of me, she came over. We ended up dragging Ken with us. Well. I ended up with two sweaters, two baskets, a pirate board game (actually, Ken found that), a gold filigree tissue holder, a pair of SCA shoes, and a mass of faux pine garland, all for less than $16.

Ken, meanwhile, bought us a sewing machine. A lovely cabinet model, sturdy and in great shape, with all its books and bobbins and tons of extra stuff in the drawers. It does round buttonholes/eyelets, which was what we needed. Most electronic machines that do those cost $200 _more_ than the base model. We got this entire thing for $70. Be still my heart.

I still haven’t gotten any writing done, for various reasons, but I’m going to start now. I so want this novella finished. I mean, I’m enjoying it, but I’m seeing the end in sight and I just want to get there. No word yet from the editor reading the excerpts, or from the readers’ choice contest. But it still must be done. I have other projects to attend to!
