Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Amusement value

Words Written: “On Display”, 1160; also brainstorming notes for another erotica antho story

My comp copies of Best Lesbian Erotica 2005 arrived today. Very spiffy. Alas, they came with postage due, but they’re still very spiffy. There’s going to be a reading in San Francisco in late January. We could, conceivably, go. What do ya’ll think? Should I go read erotica in front of a bunch of strangers?

I had a very funny thought recently. (Funny to me, that is—it may not be terribly amusing to anyone living outside of my brain.) Lately, my brain has been coming up with ideas for work-for-hire fiction, although, alas, not the things that are open right now (like Star Trek: SCE or BattleCorps) but for things liked “Charmed” and “Angel” (oh, let me write about the Files & Records woman! or at least a Lilah story!). So my funny thought was about “Battlestar Galactica”. Wouldn’t it be f-ing hilarious if I got to write WFH for the new series?! See, way way way back when, I was a huge fan of the original series, and I wrote BG fanfic, oh yes I did. Mary Jane fanfic, no less, oh yes. Thankfully the actual manuscript has been lost (although I’d love to see it again, along with my post-The Empire Strikes Back/pre-Return of the Jedi novel), and I know none of the ideas would be useful now anyway. But the sweet irony of writing for the new series makes me giggle aloud.

Not that I’m saying I’ll get the chance. It’s just at the amusement value stage right now.

Now Reading: (about to start) Tithe, Holly Black; Tournaments Illuminated, Summer 2004; Sirens and Other Dæmon Lovers, Datlow & Windling (Eds.)

Lately Listened To: The Celts and A Day Without Rain, Enya

Recently Watched: “Inside the Actor’s Studio: Robin Williams”
