Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

A fever in my blood

Words Written: whaa?

This is how it works: Go to concert. Have rock star pour water on you from bottle he just drank from. Drink from the same bottle after he gives it to you. Several days later, discover you now have his cold.

Giggle like a frisky schoolgirl.

(I knew he had a cold, too. For two nights I watched him drink from his warmie mug and I noticed the bottle of tincture sitting on the drum riser. I also haven’t taken my daily Echinacea in about 5 days. So it’s all my fault, really. And I don’t care.)

Michael Jasper gives advice from the OCW Novel Workshop he attended here. I met Mike briefly after his novel workshop, when Ken and I cruised by Kris & Dean’s to meet for lunch after Styxfest.

Here’s another write-up, with commentary.

What’s interesting to me is that most of what both people wrote are what’s in my notes, but there’s a bit here and there that isn’t. We tend to hear what we think we ought to hear—which is why I tape the actual critiques on my manuscripts. We tend to write down the criticisms, because we’ll need that info to make the ms stronger in rewrites/redrafts, but we need to also see the positive comments. I was amazed when I transcribed the tape as to how much positive stuff I’d missed.

So. Enjoy. Me, I’ve got to get back to the novel for the next workshop. Thankfully I’m not feverish—although Styx’s version of “I Am the Walrus”, sung by Lawrence “Here, Share My Germs” Gowan, seems to be permanently stuck in my head.

Not feverish, but definitely loopy, and I feel hot and keep removing clothing. So no writing today, but I cleaned off my desk and updated my To Do list and had a chiro appt and snuggled with my beloved to watch TV.

It looks like we won’t be going up to the Black Oak Lodge site for a walkthrough this weekend, since the road looks like this. Is it bad that one of my first thoughts was, “If the site can’t finish the work on the new bathrooms and we can’t hold the event, then I can go to the two Styx concerts in Laughlin!”? Yeah, I thought so. Bad event steward. Tsk tsk.
