Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Tea, always much-needed

Words Written: AETW: ~1100; Denise Little story: notes

Some unhappy news to report: Pocket Books’ legal department has decided that I have a number of pro sales (defining pro as “I was paid for published work”), so my story for Strange New Worlds 8 is not eligible.

While I’m understandably disappointed, the most important thing for me is that I still have a positive, professional relationship with the editor at Pocket. I hope to work with her again some day, and I’m desperately relieved that I didn’t mess up anything in that respect.

We were both out of bed before 7 a.m., absolutely unheard of for us. Ken’s first day of work, you see. And I have a ton of things to do. Plus I woke up from a good Styx dream, and had to remember it so I could tell Sarah about it. :-)

Much later now. Let’s see. I went to Staples and amazingly did not buy out the store. Printer paper and cartridges were the main order of business. Came home, made a much-needed cup of tea, and finished printing novel proposals. Then I went to the Post Office and the library, where I alternated between reading the latest Sue Grafton and working. I rambled some notes about the story for the Denise Little Workshop anthology; not sure where exactly I’m going with it, but I have an overall idea. I got a bit done on AETW before I realized I was falling asleep, so I walked home and made another much-needed cup of tea. Overall, I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped, but a fair amount, so I’m okay with that.

After Ken came home (later than expected), we went to Chili’s for supper. Oof. Full now. Then we watched “Battlestar Galactica”, and now I’m glaring at the computer screen because the network is being flaky and I can’t get to my e-mail yet again. I guess one good thing about getting up so early is the network seems to work fine early in the day, so I can get the bulk of my e-mail work done in the a.m.

In other news, Ken won’t be going to Boston after all; they decided he’s more needed in the office here. So that’s nice.

Toddling off to bed now…
