Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Rain, avalanches, and other natural phenomena

Words Written: AETW: 1391, and Epilogue finished!

Oops. Forgot to say that the gaming party on Sunday was a blast. We got there at 3 p.m. or thereabouts, and left at 1:30 a.m. Fun games, fun and interesting people (mostly TV/movie industry folks, which makes for some fascinating and informative conversations), good food, a rousing viewing of the latest ep of “Young Blades”…

The drive home was a little scary due to the rain, but the closer we got to Ventura County, the less hard it fell, so that was good. I’m glad we weren’t on the Hollywood Fwy last night, when the water was so high that traffic was stopped. At rush hour.

Another headache this morning, but liberal application of drugs is keeping it mostly at bay. I’m just soldiering through. Catching up on some overdue e-mail, about to call Teresa for some brainstorming, and then on to AETW…

Some days, there’s just an avalanche of e-mail. We got our latest assignment for the Denise Little Workshop: send our stories to everyone else, and read all the stories before the workshop. Suddenly, e-mails everywhere. I set up a quick Excel spreadsheet to track which ones have come in. Oy.

In other OCW news, Kris & Dean have cancelled the 2005 Master Class and will not be holding it again. Everyone’s coming out of the woodwork to talk about how the class changed their writing careers. It’s kind of sad in a nostalgic sort of way. The feel that it’s the end of an era, even if it’s only been a couple years, really. (I took what was essentially the first one in March 2002, but there was a smaller, shorter test one a few years earlier.) What an amazing class. What an amazing bunch of people I now get to call colleagues and, for many of them, great friends.

For a few of the other workshops, this will be the last year, but happily, the Novel Workshops will continue, at least.

I was gearing up to make dinner tonight when Morgana called to invite us over for dinner. They’re subscribed to a meal delivery service (which comes out to about $7.50 for a meal that feeds 4-5 people), so that’s all manner of spiffy. Afterwards, they showed us the goodies they’d obtained at Estrella War, and we generally hung out. Now, of course, it’s late, and I have to do some more work on AETW before I collapse…
