Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Are we there yet?

In LAX. I got here at 11 a.m. and I don’t even board until after 1 p.m. (Ken had a business lunch appt, so he dropped me off early.) I’ve browsed magazines, looked at the top-selling books, eaten an overpriced and highly disappointing sandwich (I ordered a tuna sandwich and got a tuna melt. I think warm tuna is an abomination. Bleah.), and now I’m in the gate area, where there is a truly annoying constant ringing. It’s barely 12:30 p.m. Ah well.

And just as I typed that, the ringing stopped. What a relief.

There are no outlets anywhere. Also annoying. Especially since my phone battery beeped to let me know it was almost out of power right as I was leaving the house.

Hey, now some guy is playing guitar. I thought it was over the sound system until someone clapped. He’s really good!

2:24 p.m. On the plane, and now back off again. Mechanical problems. Sigh.

2:36 p.m. A new plane is coming. We’ll leave at 3:30 p.m., so only about a 2-hour delay. I’m just grateful I don’t have a connecting flight to miss, and that I had a phone so I could alert Phaedra. I did find an outlet—the only one in this bloody terminal, apparently—so I had about 10 minutes of juicing up Afalwen and the phone before they moved us to the new gate. Oh, I take that back—I did find another outlet. At the entrance to the men’s room. I think I’ll take my chances that I charged the phone enough, rather than sitting on the floor right there…

As long as my suitcase shows up in Portland when I do, everything will be fine.
