Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Of queries and fairies

Words Written: AETW: four queries in mail

One of the perks of working in an office (as opposed to working at home in one’s underwear) is birthday lunches! The HR lady came by yesterday, having remembered that my birthday is two days after hers, and we organized a birthday lunch for the day between, with the rest of my department.

I keep meaning to write journal entries, but I never seem to have the time. If I don’t have the time to work on my writing, how can I have time for an entry? Sorry for abandoning you all. I’m just so damned tired all the time.

I’m trying an early shift this week, to see if I can survive it in order to do the bus or vanpool thing (all of them leave before 6:30 a.m. and will require about 20 minutes of driving on my part). Getting up at 5 a.m. has been torturous. (On Saturday, I got up at 3:30 a.m. to take Ken to the airport.) I’ve pretty much become a permanent zombie, knocking back tea or chocolate covered espresso beans to get through the day, and just falling over in the evening.

Sigh.

Saturday, Morgana hosted a Fairy Tea. I didn’t have time to pull a costume together, so I wore my green velvet dress and black granny boots, and made a crown out of fake ivy, trailing more ivy around my shoulders. I wanted to add tears shaped like little leaves, but Cat showed up later than planned and I didn’t have the chance to accost her for makeup help.

I made insalata caprese at Morgana’s request, and we all noshed on tea sandwiches and scones and various teas and “fairy spears” (asparagus) and lots and lots of chocolate. Whee! Between the caffeine and the sugar, we were flying.

Cat, Mel, and I joined Morgana and Brian for supper. M&B had fresh pasta, so I bought alfredo sauce and Cat bought salad fixings and Mel bought wine. I also picked up a few grocery items I needed for the week, including a box of wine, and I got carded! I was thrilled. Almost 40, and still carded. Hee hee!

Sunday I didn’t write as much as I meant to. I was pretty groggy all day. Yesterday, no writing. Tonight, nothing except getting those queries out. I really have to focus on the manuscript. It doesn’t help that I hate editing. But if any of those queries come back with a request for a partial (or, gods willing, the whole manuscript!), I need to have it ready. And I have three or four more places to send a synopsis and three chapters, when those are ready.
