Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Productive weekend, really

Words Written: 0 (critiqued a novella, though)

Wow. Why is the weekend over already? I just got started!

I should be in bed; in fact, I said I was going to bed early, because by 8:30 I was exhausted. But here I am, trying to squeeze the last few projects out.

Friday night was Kelly’s 40th birthday party, conveniently in Santa Barbara, so all I had to do was pick up her gift (a pot of lilies) before I arrived. Cat was there, too, and we were both rather antisocial and mostly just hung out with each other. I was tired, and still fighting the stupid cold. We left sometime after 9, came back to the house (she was spending the weekend), and watched an episode of “Young Blades”. We were both so tired and punchy that it took us almost 2 hours to watch it, because we kept pausing and rewinding to make comments and laugh. Our own private MST3K. It’s not a bad show, just a low-budget one.

Saturday I did laundry, deal with e-mail, paid bills, watched “Enterprise” (the penultimate episode made me cry, but the final episode…nope, just didn’t work, which in itself was rather sad), and read a good chunk of Phaedra’s wonderful Brava novella. Cat ran errands, and in the evening we combined foods for supper: a salad of romaine lettuce, basil, cucumber, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and chicken (cooked in oil and soy sauce). Quite yummy. We finished off with strawberry shortcake topped with a lemon sorbet that Ed & Marian had made that we hadn’t finished yet. And we watched “Charmed” and “Young Blades” and had a very silly time.

Today I food shopped at Trader Joe’s and Von’s, picked up a few things at other places (including an overdue birthday present for my sister), and finished reading Phae’s novella. And watched a little TV (all of the TV watching has involved me doing blackwork). And worked on a couple of SCA projects (finishing up Black Oak Lodge paperwork, and writing the announcement for Fall Crown Tournament, as I’m in charge of publicity).

I want another day! I need more time! I need to critique two stories of Teresa’s, and get some of my own writing done, and go to B&N and read other Brava books, and call my mother and sister, and do some more agent research, and and and…

But now I really have to sleep. So, g’night, and see you on the morrow!
