Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

So our department at work was shanghaied into participating in a contest—we were put into teams and had to come up with innovative ideas for a couple different kinds of books. Our team won second place in one of the categories, which meant we each got $100.* I’d already decided that if I won, I’d donate the money to Hurricane Relief, because we have a box out here at work, and Ken and I haven’t donated anything yet, and it wasn’t money I was planning on or depending on anyway.

So after we won I e-mailed the VP (one of the judges) and asked her to have the money directly donated, unless that would mess up the Accounting Department. I sent the e-mail, erased the info from my brain.

Five minutes later, she scared the living daylights out of me by sneaking up behind me and putting both hands on my shoulders, to personally thank me for the donation.

Of course, she managed to time it just as I was playing a game of Solitaire.

Fnck.**

It was only me carpooling today, so no writing, alas. I managed to get a little done after dinner. I currently feel behind on life, and it doesn’t help that I’m not sleeping well.

But, as Scarlett says, tamarrah is anuthuh day.

* Second place in a category in which we were the only entrants. Don’t ask.

** The president/CEO (also one of the judges) later e-mailed me to thank me, which was also very sweet.
