Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Multiple choice

Egads, October snuck up on my while I wasn’t looking. I haven’t been paying attention to a lot of things recently…

In the past 5 days, I’ve been to three Styx concerts, one of which made me get up at 3 a.m. and one that got me home at 1 a.m. I’ve seen two extraordinary movies, Serenity and Mirrormask (both very different, so hard to compare, but I think Mirrormask is edging to the front). The 40 Days and 40 Nights of Ken came to a successful end with his party on Saturday night. I want to say I’m socialized out, but the fact is, I get so much energy from my friends—from the various groups like The Styx Heaux (I get to sit at the cool table!), the SCA crowd, and the people who transcend the groups to become close friends.

So much to write about, and so little time. I’m not exactly behind on the Beautiful Trophy Challenge novel, since I’ve already written 12K, but it’s already two days into October. I’m regretting our plan to share an RV at Great Western War; right now, I want to day-trip on Saturday and that’s it. I’m forcing back anxiety, and I don’t like feeling that way. Not one bit, no how.

So let’s talk about something else. Like the hawk hovering over a cliff to our left as we cruised down Hwy 1 on the bike, the overcast sea to our right.

Or this interesting question: Is it more disturbing that
(a) While headed through Malibu, where I know a band member surfs, I was looking for his car, which I have several pictures of (hey, it’s his own fault that he drove away from the Key Club waving at everyone, and then parked his car outside the Wiltern Theatre the next day); or
(b) I know what car he drives (although, in my defense, I haven’t memorized his license plate number); or
(c) I realized moments later that he wouldn’t be surfing in Malibu today, as Styx is playing in Colorado on Monday and Tuesday?

Okay, I’m going to gaze at my picture of Lawrence grinning while my hand is…straying on his body, and then I’m going to bed. Here’s hoping for sweet dreams for all of us.
