Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Day of general malaise

Words written: CSF proofing—done!; DFL Chapter 1—done! (both additions and deletions, so impossible to quantify with a word count)

I took a sick day today. Nothing seriously wrong, just a general malaise that I thought I’d nip in the bud by taking it easy and resting. Which, of course, means working one job, not two.

Teresa had sent the proof changes, and I checked them, and we wrote a cover e-mail, and sent them off. Next step…cover flat? Actual book in hand? I’d like to see cover art before then, because I’m toying with the idea of having some bookmarks made. Ya’ll want a bookmark in your Yule card, right?

I worked on DFL, and got Chapter 1 to some semblance of completeness. I’m too close to it to know if it’s any good. I think it has too much backstory, but I’m the worst judge of it right now. Chapter 2 needs some transition work, mostly, and Chapter 3’s in reasonable shape, so I hope I can get those sussed out this week. Then I need to write a new synopsis (I wrote the original one before I even started the book, and some small but crucial details have changed). In the meantime, new words will start appearing as of tomorrow, come hell or high water.

I also followed up on five overdue stories. Four were second queries, so if I don’t hear by the end of the year (or probably sooner) I’ll politely pull them and send them elsewhere.

It was a grey, overcast day; the house was a little chilly but it was nice outside. We took a leisurely walk through the small park to have lunch at the new Thai place—Tom Yung Goong was exactly what I was craving. Ken did some grocery shopping later on, and we had tacos for supper, and watched some TV together. Overall, a quiet, restful day, hopefully one that will stave off any encroaching illness. I’m going to go to bed early-ish, lounge with the current book I’m reading.

It’s all okay, you know?
