Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

The right decision

I gave notice at my job today. It’s something Ken and I have been talking about, and I made it official today. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I know it’s the right one.

The universe, it seems, agrees with me. First, this morning before I came to work, I read Dean’s latest essay, and it reaffirmed that I was doing the right thing. Then, later this morning, Ken got the call approving a major job with the company in Portland. When all is said and done, what he’ll make out of the deal will be close to what I’d make in a year here. (He won’t get all the money right away, of course, and things will be tight for us for a while, but the timing couldn’t have been more

I’m doing this to focus on my writing. That’s the overriding reason, and any other things that affected my decision are secondary (or less) to that. If anyone has questions, feel free to contact me privately.

I’ve given two weeks but said that’s negotiable, and I’m probably negotiable up to the end of the year at this point, depending on various factors. I’ll probably still lay low SCA-wise for a while after that, until I feel I’ve got my writing routines where they need to be, but I’ll be able to see friends a bit more, at least.

A little scary. A little sad. But the right thing to do.
