Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

But it was really good pizza

Words Written: don’t ask
Exercise: still taking it easy

I’m still here. I’ve just been grumpy and distracted, and I’ve been having trouble writing, which makes me grumpy and anxious. I suspect the back pain is part of the problem. It’s better, but it still hurts in the morning, and I’m not sleeping as long as I would like.

So Ken has taken it upon himself to cheer me up, or at least distract me today. We’re between Netflix movies (we watched Lemony Snicket on Wednesday, but didn’t get the DVD into the mail until Thursday afternoon, so we assumed we wouldn’t get the next one ‘til Monday), so we went to Blockbuster and came away with Ringers, the documentary about Lord of the Rings, and The Island, because we wanted either comedy or a cheesy action flick, and cheesy action flick won out. We loaded up on good food for the week at the grocery store, came home, made Ruebens, and watched Ringers, which was quite amusing (although slow in places). I was surprised not to see some of our hard-core SF-fan friends in it.

Then, in a brilliant display of completely avoiding all the healthy and interesting ingredients for meals, we’ve ordered pizzas. When they arrive, we’ll make salads (in a last-ditch attempt not to be total slobs) and eat pizza and watch either The Island or The Road to El Dorado, because, Irony won again and the next Netflix movie showed up in today’s mail.

A brief recap of the week is in order, I suppose, although one of the reasons I haven’t been updating (along with the cranky mood) is that life has been pretty quiet of late. Wednesday we purged more files, watched Lemony Snicket (Strange movie. Jim Carey was a little too much Jim Carey. It distracted from the movie, I think. I loved the kids, though.), and I worked on Angelika and a short story. Thursday we walked to the farmer’s market and picked up veggies and fresh flowers (dark pink and white, for Imbolc). Friday I ran a few errands, which were mostly successful but also frustrating due to lack of money. I worked all three days, too, although I have to put in a few hours this weekend, too.

Otherwise, to distract myself, I’ve been doing little projects that have been sitting on my To Do list, some for months. See, I note things that need to be done on certain days, but I also have a list of random “stuff to do when I get a few moments” that aren’t time sensitive. Like, photocopying all the stuff in my wallet and storing the copies in the lock box, in case my wallet gets stolen. And, proofreading the Shire’s Order of Precedence by cross-checking it against the Kingdom one (which I promised to do months and months ago. That movement you just saw out of the corner of your eye? Could’ve been a flying pig.). So, if nothing else, I’ve had the satisfaction of crossing some stuff off my list.

Later now. We watched stuff, ate pizza, sat in the hot tub. A good day off. Hopefully it’ll help recharge me for the days to come.
