Texas Goes After the Unitarians

But according to the office of Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn, a Texas Unitarian church isn't really a religious organization - at least for tax purposes. Its reasoning: The organization "does not have one system of belief."


Now what's shitty is not that they're trying to deny a church tax exempt status. Only in a grotesque bizarro world could we call televangelists like Benny Hinn or the financial juggernaut that is the Catholic Church "non-profit" with a straight face. All churches should pay taxes.

So what's shitty about this story is that Strayhorn is selectively targetting the Unitarians. If they were just the first on the list, I'd support it (though the Catholics should be first on any list of this kind). But I don't think that's Strayhorn's intention.
