The Wisdom of Children

So Steve Irwin got barbed by a stingray and died. Sad story, but it really surprises me how big a story this has been. And they say the Australian government offered a state funeral? What? That would be like giving Mr. Rogers a state funeral. Seems just a bit out of proportion. At least Irwin's dad was classy enough to turn down the offer.

In all the news stories though, I thought this was particularly interesting, a piece on how traumatic the event was to many children.

I feel sorry for his family, and the kids, but I have to admit, this bit made me laugh:

Daniel, 11, asked: "Why did it have to be Steve Irwin? Why couldn't it be someone older like Sean Connery?"

I wonder how Connery's publicist would answer that one.
