How to Decide Between Religions

In science, when there are competing hypotheses, in the absence of definitive evidence, there are usually rival camps. Usually enough evidence finally piles up to confirm a given theory in favor of others.

But if you don't use evidence to believe in a particular religion, how do you decide which one is truer, and thus which one to follow to make sure you don't end up in fiery oblivion?

If it's a matter of what makes you feel good, I guess you should just pick the one that makes you feel the best. If it's sheer number of believers, you'd have to go with Christianity, but since that wasn't always the case, that doesn't seem like a good criteria. This kind of seems like a problem, doesn't it?
