Here is Jim Farris.

JF: Hello everyone and welcome to our new Silly Thinking feature, Dougs World with Jim Farris.
Im Jim Farris.

As regular visitors to ST know, Dougs World was a regular weekly feature featuring our own founder and regular contributor, Doug Lain. We have received a letter and E-Mail wanting to know what happen to Doug.

Well it is my sad duty to report that Dougs no longer with us. We here at ST will miss Doug and his one of kind contributions and his special courage. But as they say in show business the show must go on. So it is with a heavy heart that I, Jim Farris, continue as the new host of Dougs World and will do my best to keep doing the feature the way Doug would have wanted it done, with integrity, guts, and a real point of view on the world around us. So with that in mind here is Dougs World.

dOugS wOrlD!!

Tomorrow is the finale of Friends, the popular NBC situation comedy that has charmed the world and fascinated a nation. We will miss all the Friends: Bumbling Ross, Klutzy Judy, Bobby the actor, and of course, everyones favorite
Jane.

Thursdays wont be the same without all our Friends. The Friends who helped us get over 9/11 with laughter and tears, the Friends who made us laugh and cry after the Iraq war, and most of all the Friends who got us thrOUGH that bout with venereal warts, with humor and more than a few tears. Milk prices are about to sky rocket and gas is now over two dollars a gallon, but somehow with the Friends on NBC that wasnt important.

Now it is.

What will Thursday nights be like without Friends? Thats easy: unbearable. But life without Friends is now going to be a reality. So come Thursdays well have to get know the Survivors on CBS or Test Pattern Playhouse on ABC, or even worse WWF Smackdown! on UPN. Yes without Friends Thursdays will no longer be must see TV because its going off the air, but we as a people are not. We will still be there waiting, waiting for NBC to thrill us, or sadden us with another comedy Milestone. Will it be Law And Order: Friends Unit or Whoopi Friends? Perhaps theyll just show Donald Trump all the time. Whatever it will be it will not be our Friends. Because they are gone. Bumbling Ross, dead. Klutzy Judy, dead. Bobby, not dead and coming back with a sequel to Friends. But will it suck? Will it get us through the pain and anguish of 9/11 again? Will Bobby alone make us laugh and cry? Will one Friend take the place of three? Well four if you count him, but he will still be on. So I dont know. And of course Jane, dead.

Im reminded of a line from the haunting theme of Friends by the Rembrandts: Ill be there for you, Ill be there for you, through everything you do Doug, wherever you are tonight Ill be there for you, Ill be there for you, through everything you do. even though, like Friends you're gone. Well thats it for this week. Be sure to Join Marlon Brando and the cast of Friends tomorrow night. Ill be back on Friday with STHT and Saturdays its Dead Celebrities. Sundays join Hal Holbrook for STShowcase. On Mondays join me, Jim Farris, for STHT and Tuesdays Connie Chung will be here with her new 1 On 1.
