What’s hot and what’s not in DVD’s this week.

1. “The Marx Brothers Collection”. The good news is we are finally getting the Marx’s on DVD. The bad news is this collection comes from Warner Bros. Which means it’s the post Paramount- MGM Marx Brothers pictures. We get the hilarious “Night At The Opera” and “Day At The Races” and with 33 hours of material also get to see “At The Circus”, “Go West”, “The Big Store”, and their last film as The Marx Brothers “Night In Casablanca”. Much mediocrity here with a lot of awful sub-plots. But Warner Brothers put it’s together with lots of “Night At The Movies” features and Leonard Maltin interviews. Later this year Universal will be putting out the undiluted Marx Brothers Paramount pictures. Wait for that.

2. Warner’s is also putting out “The Jetsons” first season. Which is fine, but it only had one season and these original 26 episodes are pretty good TV fare.

3. And while their at it, we also get “Johnny Quest” season one. Again there was only one season of 26 episodes and 13 hours of Johnny and Hodgie is a long afternoon.

4. “Desk Set” Hepburn- Tracy charmer in beautiful Cinemascope and color by deluxe from 1957 is not the best of this incredible team’s work, but its a breezy comedy set in the world of a TV network. You will be royally entertained.

5. “Calendar Girls” from last year is an English comedy where “over the hill” middle aged women pose for nudie calendar shots for charity and mayhem ensues.

6. . “The X Files” Complete Ninth Season collection. Was anyone watching the show by this point?

7. “The Sonny and Cher Ultimate Collection” overrated one joke variety show from the early 70’s is here with 9 hours of dated gags and mediocre songs. Oh boy.

STIS!
