All of us at Silly Thinking are shocked and saddened at the news of Marlon Brando's death at the age of 80.

He was an intensly private man who led a public life and stayed true to his beliefs, dedicating himself to the rights of Native Americans and the environment, while downplaying the craft of acting and his own celebrity.

Marlon Brando would not like the tributes that will be made in the coming days, but for movie fans and admirers of the craft of acting, it will be necessary.
He was "the actor of his generation".
