ST Democratic Convention LIVE

Here, from the home of the Democratic Convention, The Fleet Center in Boston, is Connie Chung, reporting live from our ST Democratic Convention News Headquarters.

CC: Good afternoon and welcome to day 4 of the 4 day Democratic Convention, I’m Connie Chung reporting from the Fleet Center, the home of the Democratic Convention, here, in Boston.
Well, last night the delegates made it official and placed John Kerry’s name in nomination for their parties Presidential bid, to run against George W. Bush in November.
Tonight Kerry will make one of the biggest speeches of his public life as he accepts his parties nomination with a fifty of fifty five minute speech, that should give the country a firm understanding of where he stands on issues from homeland security, the war in Iraq, to domestic issues.
These acceptance speeches are a defining moment for any candidate and today we have a man who has stood in the democratic spotlight, accepting the nomination himself. A grand party member: Walter Mondale.
Good afternoon Mister Former Vice President.

WM: Yes.

CC: How does it feel to face these delegates, cheering and waving placards with your name on it, and accept the nomination for President?

WM: Well… Connie… it’s amazing. It really is. When I did it in 19… 80… I was so invigorated. It was exciting. Of course Ronald Reagan destroyed me in the election. Decimated me.

CC: But that night at the convention was a memorable moment?

WM: Where’s my soup? I asked for some soup.

CC: I don’t know. In your speech in 1980 you said you’d raise taxes. Do you regret that?

WM: Geraldine Ferraro.

CC: Interesting….

WM: Where’s my soup?

CC: Uhm, how have you liked the convention so far?

WM: You know, thank God for these Depends. My goose would be cooked without them. I love it. We are united.

CC: Oh. Good. Now as you alluded to earlier, you ran with the first woman ever nominated for Vice President, Geraldine Ferraro. Are you still in touch with her?

WM: What I said was ‘I’ll raise your soup, but I’ll tell you and George Bush won’t.” It was honest.

CC: Yes. Well I know you and so many of us will be watching tonight. Any advice for John Kerry?

WM: Oh he doesn’t need me. He’s made that quite clear. But if he did ask me anything accept “Hi. How are you?” clearly not knowing who the hell I am, I mean he has people. Someone might have told him who I was.

CC: We will all be watching to see if he follows those words of wisdom. Thank you Mister Vice President.

WM: Yes.

CC: That’s all for now. We’ll be back if anything note worthy happens. Until then,
Be seeing you.

ST IS!
