ST Republican Convention

Here, from our New York World News Headquarters in New York, is senior ST correspondent, Connie Chung.

CC: Good afternoon and welcome to ST’s Republican National Convention coverage.
For the next four days we will be looking at this convention and bringing you the best coverage, anywhere.
Joining me today is stalwart Republican, and former Republican candidate for President and long time senator, Bob Dole.

BD: Bob Dole says hello to Connie Chung.

CC: OK. Senator Dole, the dust up over the Swift Boats and the lies and mudslinging increased when you made a statement last week.

BD: Kerry’s a great guy, but why does he want to talk about the past? Viet Nam? That’s thirty five years ago. Bob Dole says lets talk about his record now. But he can’t because, he’s a great guy, but he doesn’t have a record.

CC: You worked in the senate with John Kerry, certainly he has a record.

BD: Bob Dole says “No”, Connie Chung. He’s a great guy, and a close personal friend, but he didn’t do anything. My God, three purple hearts and your out.

CC: You, of course, served in World War Two.

BD: Proudly. But, I mean, those guys, in battle, Bob Dole says didn’t do anything.

CC: They and you defended the country in war.

BD: No, Connie Chung, we didn’t. In war you stand around a lot. John Kerry stood around a lot and shot himself in the foot, he’s a great guy, close personal friend, but no. Bob Dole says “No!”

CC: Senator, with all due respect, you’re not making sense.

BD: Look, Connie Chung, were in a tight battle to re elect this President. In elections, war time doesn’t mean anything. I mean, in battle… he’s a great guy… but… three purple hearts and your out.

CC: I can’t follow anything you just said. Tonight Senator John McCain speaks…

BD: Great guy, and a close personal friend, served his country admirably in war time. A true American hero who deserves a real Bravo from Bob Dole.

CC: But…

BD: Decorated veteran, Bob Dole’s proud.

CC: But…

BD: Proud American veteran. Bob Dole’s proud.

CC: I’ll let you get back to the minibar. See you tomorrow.

BD: Bob Dole. Connie Chung, proud veteran, three purple hearts and your out.
