A Special Report.

"Shuttle Update"

Here, from STSpace Control at The Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is ST Chief Science Editor: Connie Chung.

CC: Good afternoon. We are now getting our first pictures from the Space Shuttle in space.

CC: There are members of the crew. I am told we can talk to them.
Hello Astronauts. This is Connie Chung, ST News. Can you hear me?

H: I can hear you fine Ms. Chung.

CC: Oh.. good. Who is this?

H: I am the onboard computer.

CC: How is the flight going?

H: Very well, thank you. The crew is, for the most part, sleeping. I control everything on the ship, climate, food, lighting. It is all going perfectly. A HAL computer has a perfect record.

CC: That’s very comforting, I wanted to ask…

H: Just a moment… just a moment. I sense a failure in one of our onboard sensors. It is on the outside of the ship. It will function perfectly and fail without notice within 24 hours.

CC: Well, I’d better let you get to that.

H: Yes. Yes, perhaps one of our teams could go check it out while the others sleep.

CC: Sounds like a plan. Thank you HAL.

H: I have learned a song. Would you like me to sing it for you?

CC: Oh, sure..

H: Daisy…Daisy.. tell me your answer do… I’m half crazy over a girl like you.
It won’t be a stylish marriage……….

CC: Thank you. Stay with ST News!!

H: …I can’t afford….. a… carriage……

ST NEWS!
