STNews presents

This is BREAKING NEWS From ST!

Here, from STSpace Control at The Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is ST Chief Science Editor and Senior ST meteroligist: Connie Chung.

CC: Good morning. Hurricane Katrina is pummeling the Gulf Coast and headed right for downtown New Orleans,

now downgraded to a category four hurricane with winds at about 145 miles per hour.

This could be the hurricane of the century. Katrina was a category 5 storm for most of Sunday but the US weather center says don’t let that fool you. It still packs quite a wallop.

Thousands of refugee’s are packed into the Superdome

in New Orleans, but no one knows if it will hold. The entire city of New Orleans could be destroyed by this probable direct hit.

Oil production in the Gulf of Mexico
has been halted, affecting the price of a barrel of crude, jumping to over sixty dollars a barrel.
This could be the beginning of what many think is a serious oil shortage, not only in the United States, but globally as well. We have been pretending there is no problem in using fossil fuels, but we have been reckless with our consumption, and now, with this hurricane, our worst nightmare’s may be upon us. Gas and fuel oil could rise to almost four dollars a gallon within days.
Also the industrial section of the Big Easy will probably suffer sizeable damage possibly dispersing deadly chemicals into the huge surge of water that will flood the city with up to 24 foot waves.
So, we have a natural disaster, an American city possibly about to be destroyed, a huge environmental crisis looming, and energy disaster, and possibly a huge death toll.

On the lighter side, President Bush is still at his ranch in Crawford, Texas,

enjoying his five week vacation, but still will not meet with Cindy Sheehan, the woman whose son was killed in the war in Iraq which is suffering it’s worse losses of life since it started.
The President will vacation till after Labor Day.
Stay with ST as we cover “The End Of The World”.

ST IS!!!!
