"S" is a very attractive, intelligent, talented client of mine who has been sitting on the side-lines of her life for years. She's been afraid, afraid to "go out there," afraid to interview, afraid to ask friends for help, afraid to see what, if anything, she could create in life. Well, her finances finally hit rock bottom and she had no room left to procrastinate any longer. Between last week's session and today she had forced herself out the door, fear and all, and had landed not one, but two jobs. And not just any jobs, really good jobs in two different areas of interest for her. And because they demand such different sorts of energetic and time commitments, she is able to do them both without conflict. Needless to say she was pretty empowered by her results. For certain, all the work we do, whether in therapy or on our own, only readies us to take some new action. Creating anything demands action. This last step feels much scarier than it proves to be in reality. And sometimes we need life to kick us in the you-know-where before we'll take that one last and most critical step... Action.
