Things more fun than Taxes

I'm at that point where if I bite into something that has too high a dairy content, I can tell right away. It just tastes wrong and makes me slightly sick to my stomach. I suppose this is a good old survival instinct kicking in, but it's also strange. I've never been allergic to any food thing (other than lobster, which I only ate the once) before.

Tim and I made Boboli pizza last night, and it was insanely good. I haven't had pizza in over a month, and that last time it made me so sick. Yesterday I used soy mozzarella, which tasted exactly like real mozzarella to me even when I ate a pinch of it before it went on the 'za and got all metly. Of course, that may be because I haven't had real cheese in awhile, but I was pathetically grateful for the simulated pizza goodness. Yum!

Actually, Tim made the pizza while I finished up my taxes. We got our taxes done a whole month early! Whoot! Go us! The main reason for this was that we didn't want to come back from Hidden City in April and immediately have to deal with taxes, but it has the added benefit of an early tax refund. Which will mostly likely go right into the wedding savings fund, but still. Nice to have that cushion.

Spent most of the weekend in the hammock, to the point where when I laid down in bed at night it felt as if I was still rocking gently. Ahh. I made myself not bring a book the first time, just so I could concentrate on relaxing. Not sure it worked, but it was awfullly nice weather this weekend and nice to be rocking gently in the breeze.

I also worked on Flytrap rejections this weekend. Still a lot to go, but it's nice to get some of that cleared away. I'm finding it easier to write rejections this time around (though I must admit I use the form more often than not, simply to save time); I think it's because I have a slush reader. It's nice to have that second opinion on things.

By the way, I haven't sent out one acceptance yet. I'll probably wait until we officially close and I have some time to compare the possible candidates.

Let's see, what else. Oh, Wonderfalls. We watched the first episode Friday and it was so good -- kind and funny and speculative. Tim and I were both really impressed. Really, if you're homebodies like us and are home at 9pm on a Friday night, you should watch it while you can; it's so good, it probably won't last for long.

Oh, yes. Saturday we went to Borderlands to see the finished project that Jay, Alan and Paul were working on all week. Fabulous reception, gorgeous art and a story I'm looking forward to reading. We got to hang out and chat with Jed, Frank Wu and his fiancee Allison, too, which is always nice. Paul is very funny to chat with and Jay looked dashing in a dark jacket over his trademark bright print shirt. My only complaint about the evening is that the shipping boy, aka Richard Doyle, aka the artist who did Floodwater and the illustration for Jay's story in Flytrap #1, didn't make it; I really wanted to introduce him around. Otherwise, it was a fabulous evening. Very fun.

I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, but for now I'll say Ciao!
