Hurricane!

Well, if you watch the national weather, you've heard about Hurricane Alex. Currently, H. Alex is off the southern Outer Banks. Near a place called Hatteras, which just happens to be the place we were going to visit today to see a very cool lighthouse.

Sigh.

So, Tim and I decided this morning, while reclining in the RV that we're staying in this week, that it was perfect movie weather. So, once we were in the lovely, solid, main house (with wireless, whoo!) we looked at our movie options in our current zip code.

It was then pointed out to us that the closest movie theatres are further out in the outer banks, which is not a good place to be right now. Even looking at movie theatres inland turned out not to be an option, not with winds from 50 to 60 mph (they're 100 to 120 futher out in the outer banks).

Sigh!

Man, we should've gone to the beach yesterday. Tomorrow is going to be lovely, of course. It's the day we head inland. It's also going to be incredibly hot (heat index of 105), but luckily the air conditioning in the van is really good.

I am looking forward to tomorrow, don't get me wrong. It's the day I meet Tim's dad, get to see all the places he references in his growing up horror stories (aka the place where he grew up) and go up to Raleigh for a nice dinner with ol' Mike and Elizabeth Jasper and Jason Erik Lundberg and Janet Chui. I'm looking forward to the company of writers, especially Mike whom I haven't gotten to see since ConJose.

Last night I stood on the porch with Tim's brother Wayne and listened to the rolling thunder in the distance and gasped every time lightening lit up the night sky. Beautiful! Wayne's a cool guy, very much his own person, and I enjoyed chatting with him. Of course, I feel fondly towards him because I kicked his ass in Monopoly earlier :-) He didn't even seem to mind my bad-winner gloating; what a sweetie!
