Dancin' for Obama!

Hi! Obama won! Obama won!

Last night my sister came over (my nephew was over at his godfather David's house for the evening), and we hung out, had wine and pizza, and watched the Daily Show's election coverage (with trips to CNN and cnn.com to fill out commercial breaks). I was putting the baby down when Tim came in to tell me -- at 8pm -- that they'd called it for Obama!

We three adults went out on the balcony and shouted and cheered and said "President Obama!" over and over again, and were answered with joyous shouts from our neighbors. All night long there were cars driving by with honking horns and cheering passengers, fireworks went off and helicopters circled overhead -- it was sort of like when the Raiders win or lose a big game, but without the gunfire. At home we went inside and opened a bottle of champagne and toasted our new president. We even toasted McCain for giving a gracious concession speech. We waited with great anticipation for Obama's speech, and we cried and hugged one another and hoped.

I am so happy that the first president that River will know will be Obama.

Yesterday I dressed River in his Obama onesie, even thought Tim had him most of the day. When his Auntie Holly came over he was very excited to have company, and he totally picked up the excitement in the air over the election. He got his little music center going and danced and laughed with us. Here's a little film of him doing so. He's reaching down every so often to keep the song going -- we're impressed that he knows to do that -- and it makes him look like a tiny DJ. But the best part comes right at the very end of the song itself, so even if you don't have the full minute and a half, watch at least the last third of it.

Sorry for all the laughter -- it was just soooo cute!
