Amelie

Things are going well, which makes me nervous.

Went last night to see Amelie with the girl, and another friend. We went to the Rialto Theatre in Pasadena, which has a beautiful balcony with leather seats, which is vastly more comfortable than the standard stadium seats. The only downside was that if you slouched in your seat, or when the girl and I leaned over to cuddle the subtitles got cut off.

Dominique Pinon and other recurring actors form Jeunet's other films gave their expected good performances, and Audrey Toteau gives a wonderful performance too, as a self-avowed do-gooder. I'll have to see it again when it comes out on video, as there was something important about the color red that I missed.

But coming back to the "nervous", I'm worried because I believe the universe tends towards absolute balance, and thus, I've grown to mistrust those short spates of happiness that occur from time to time, as they're usually the forebearers of ill winds. Of course, I had enough ill winds for pretty much the entirety of 2001 that I should be paid up for a while, but irrational fears are just that, irrational.

My interest in VB and web services is renewing itself, so I may launch back into the JournalScape desktop client development again, if I can find a good source on SOAP or XML-RPC for perl.
